I am Halldór Snorrason. I am a Icelandic multidisciplinary designer. I have an MA degree in Production design from the Royal Danish university for architecture and design in copenhagen.
I started drawing before I could speak, and have been drawing ever since, I got my first camera as a kid and I loved that thing, I got my first video camera at 14 and started making short films right away. I started discovering programs like photoshop and After effects right around that time. And all of those things have stuck with me.
The way I create has changed, my toolbox and skillset has evolved, but the passion and joy of creating is still the same for me.
I have had the chance to work on amazing things like making masks and props for Björk with James Merry, designing and working on props for the Netflix series “The Rain”, designing sets and props for a christmas calendar show for TV2 denmark, called Tinka’s Christmas Adventure and so much more.
I see life in some ways as a collection of stories. Design, films and animation, are a great creative outlet, and with all of those the goal is storytelling. It might be easier to see the storytelling in a film than a design, but designing for film and animation, you can tell a story with small things in the background. You see into someone’s room, there is a stack of books on the floor by the bed. They look like fantasy fiction, there is a large open box of markers on a desk with markers all around it on multiple sheets of papers with artwork and doodles on them, even a few crumpled up sheets under the desk. In this scene the main focus could be on the character talking on the phone about the date they are going on while looking for their keys.. Without thinking too much about it you learned a great deal about the character. There were many stories told in those few seconds. In other design principles the storytelling could be about the creation of the design or the story of why the design was needed.
Taste in genres, form, what medium you like to get the story from, (book, film, animation, theatre etc.) varies from person to person, but we all love good stories. And I want to tell them.
